Logo Stinger Animation

Using my old logo, I created a logo stinger animation in which my logo rolls into frame, blinks, then gets hit in the head with an Adobe Photoshop logo, revealing the true logo appearance.

In the animation, I included music that syncs with the stinger and tweening to create a fun, silly motion graphic of my logo. The logo stinger can serve as an example for how to create entertaining motion graphics of various icons, characters, or logos for other brands.

The Challenge

For a motion graphics project, I set out to create a logo stinger based on a previous version of my personal brand identity. At the outset, I had limited experience with motion design and was unfamiliar with the concept of a logo stinger—short animated sequences used to introduce or conclude branded video content.

My goal was to design a concise, visually engaging animation that would communicate personality while reinforcing brand recognition.

The Process

I began by researching common approaches to logo stingers and exploring stylistic references. The creative direction was inspired by classic cartoon visual humor—particularly exaggerated, slapstick moments where objects fall and impact a character.

Translating this into a brand context, I developed a concept in which the Adobe Photoshop logo drops into frame and interacts with my illustrated mark, triggering a facial expression change. I sketched initial frames to map timing and composition before refining the logo assets in Adobe Illustrator to better support animation (including adjusting facial features for clarity).

Within After Effects, I experimented with keyframing, motion blur, and timing to build a smooth and dynamic sequence. Typography was introduced with subtle animation to complement the primary action. To enhance the overall experience, I incorporated synchronized sound effects and selected royalty-free music that aligned with the pacing and tone of the animation.

The Outcome

The final result was a short, playful logo stinger that effectively conveyed a sense of personality while maintaining clarity and visual impact. Feedback highlighted opportunities to further refine the animation—particularly through the use of easing to create more natural transitions, and by adjusting the ending to leave a stronger, more positive impression.

Key Learnings

  • Incorporating easing and motion blur significantly improves the realism and fluidity of animated sequences.

  • Strong motion design relies on timing and pacing as much as visual elements.

  • Creative inspiration can come from unexpected sources and still translate effectively into professional work when applied thoughtfully.

Reflection

While this project was created for a previous iteration of my brand, it provided a valuable foundation in motion graphics. Moving forward, I am interested in revisiting logo animation with my current identity, applying these technical and conceptual insights to create a more refined and versatile stinger.
